Doctors prescribe medicines to the patients and advice them how to modify their lifestyles to prevent or control diseases. But there is another factor which stands above all advice and medicines- the WILL to overcome. That is the message put forward by ‘Athijeevanam’, a project of Pathanamthitta district panchayath and kNOw Diabetes which targets Type-1 patients among children. Through the free supply of insulin and glucometers and the free and regular treatment and monitoring, the community is expressing its solidarity to those children.
Students representing all the schools of Pathanamthitta the district joined their hands on World diabetes Day 2010 to proclaim, ‘Unite for Diabetes’. They walked through the streets asking their parents to ‘Understand Diabetes and Take Control’. The parents also in small groups walked through the lanes and small roads of the rural district reiterating their will to fight against diabetes.
The message of kNOw Diabetes is getting across various sections of the society. The seeds are being sown. They will sprout and bear flowers and fruits tomorrow
